Chicago, IL

The master plan for this city block in Chicago's downtown business district transforms the city's famous Block 37 into a dynamic, sustainable and unique new urban icon. It creates vistas that will maintain unique perspectives while luring the public into the heart of the project. The goal is to achieve a timeless architecture akin to other Chicago landmarks but set apart by the selection and use of materials that will result in architectural space that is both 'Chicago' and startlingly unique in its warmth and vitality.

The project includes a new tunnel and station for the CTA's Airport Express service as well as underground parking and service areas. Connections to Daley Plaza and Marshall Fields will be maintained at an enhanced Pedway Level. The project's program envisions signature international shopping, fine dining, innovative city living, exclusive destination experiences for visitors, and active community programming targeted at urban economic development. Future uses will include hotel, multi-family residential, spa, and structured parking.

(Initiated as a project of UDG, Inc. and completed by 4240 Architecture.)
