Using a highly interactive process, 4240 has developed a program for worship, education, administrative and multipurpose functions based on the congregation's anticipated growth over the next ten years.
Peace Lutheran Church is expanding its facilities to better serve the congregation and the community through numerous ministries. 4240 Architecture has also evaluated the existing site as well as other locations, and has begun to design the new facility.
This project continues to offer many exciting challenges in deciding how much to build, how to phase the construction, and what kind of architecture serves the mission of Peace and captures the spirit of this dynamic congregation.
The site in Glen Ellyn presents challenges including wetlands and a significant grade change that have been embraced by and incorporated into the design concept.
Designed as a "spiritual refraction," sensitivity to light and community is driving the design effort. Compelling spaces are being optimally designed for specific functions. The transitions are going to be strong with purpose.
The design intent confirms the Church's mission: to be an innovative and authentic connection to Christ. Supporting Peace's desire to offer its best to God while reflecting the humble character of Christ, 4240 will form the spaces for the multiple ministries with materials thought to be common, and ordinary, but elevated by thoughtful application and celebratory interraction with light.
