Peacefully nestled in the hillsides of the coastal redwoods near Santa Cruz, Mount Hermon is a One Hundred year old camp and conference center for the entire family. The McAfee Fieldhouse at Mount Hermon is poised at the edge of a playing field. The backdrop of redwood trees inspired the materials for the building. Exterior columns are redwood with the bark left on to better blend with the surroundings. The shingles are also redwood and the stone is from the local quarry. Large sliding glass doors allow the gym to be open to the playing field. Inside, a full basetball court can be divided into two volleyball courts. A game room, exercise room, and two meeting rooms offer additional uses and are arranged so that they are accessible even if the entire facility is not open. Redwood trim is used throughout the interior, with the detailing referencing the simple clean lines of the Arts and Crafts movement.
