4240 Architecture, in conjunction with Kiewit Building Group and KSQ Architects, has been selected to design and construct the most recent development at the University of Colorado Boulder Kittredge Complex- Kittredge West, Central, and Community Commons.
Kittredge West will revitalize an aging residence hall with comprehensive interior renovations as well as a modest building entry addition to an existing 75,000sf, 274 bed residence hall. New programs will include residence academic program spaces (classrooms and faculty offices) and student "collaboratories" - interactive student study/lounge spaces, two faculty apartments, a great room, and a full range of student amenity spaces.
An existing student commons building will be deconstructed and replaced with Kittredge Central Residence Hall, a new 70,000gsf, 265 bed residential learning community. While the program mix in Kittredge Central will be similar to Kittredge West - a new state-of-the-art 30,000gsf Kittredge Community Commons will compliment the residential spaces and provide a shared resource for the overall community and campus at large. Within the Community Commons Building a full range of learning and social spaces are combined to create a dynamic, interactive, living-learning environment. Spaces include classrooms, tutoring, 250-person seminar space, faculty offices, retail, central mail, and lounging spaces.
All spaces, renovations and new construction, are designed to interact with the site. The village green, village lane, activity lawn, and theater green are all programmed exterior spaces within a new student community: pedestrian focused, environmentally sensitive, and integrating within existing community fabric (campus and town).
