REVEAL + REFLECT

The historic Denver Union Station is a unique building that occupies a distinctive position in the urban plan of Denver. Prominently placed at the terminus of 17th Street in LoDo, Denver Union Station is an anchor. The proposed mixed-use transit development promises to solidify Denver's position as the Jewel of the Plains - a progressive beacon of energy, commerce, movement and life exemplifying our city's gleaming future. The Denver Union Station Wing Buildings are the first flames of Denver's next great neighborhood.

Flanking the historic Station itself, these buildings must honor its granite grandness while remaining quietly deferential. Our explorations render quiet, elegant, timeless buildings. They also, though, have the opportunity to enhance one's experience of the Station's stature; the finned-facades of the Wing Buildings function as subtle reflectors, reassembling the Station and its surrounds in a new way. Denver Union Station and its Wing Buildings become a collection of ever-changing reflections of the Station's ornate detail, its orange neon, Denver's dramatic skies and the movement surrounding them. They become snapshots of time and space, memory and desire, earth, heaven, hope and possibility. We propose honoring Denver Union Station by allowing the city to experience it in a new way.
