SaltAire is a neighborhood development project sitting on 500 acres of towering magnolias, pines and heritage oaks nestled in natural marsh lands alongside unruffled shorelines. This coastal location is intended to attract more than vacationers--it will be a seaside cottage town that families can call home. SaltAire is comprised of 1,200 homes ranging from single-family to multi-story residences and will include neighborhood amenities. The overall design evokes a lifestyle of balanced modern life, while admiring the history, natural beauty, and inspirations of Alabama as a whole. The design teams and builders are raising the bar on development by incorporating sustainable practices in order to support a "green" lifestyle for the entire community.
Lobbies, hallways, and public spaces of multi-storied residences bring the outdoors in. Nautical expressions are seen throughout-- by turning a classic vertical wainscot design to a horizontal to mimic the horizon line, lining elevator cabs with thin strips of recycled teak to invoke an experience of being in a woven basket, using horizontal striped carpet in long corridors to impart shadows through the slat fence. By using traditional materials joined with distinctive modern applications we can create historic seaside cottages with clean, simple and classic lines.
Tile flooring throughout each unit is cool and clean under foot. Ceiling fans move the coastal breezes through the rooms. Open shelving, white tile in a stacked bond pattern, woven steel and wicker elements underscore the environment we encounter at the seaside. A clean palate of gloss white, bright fabrics, cotton, cane and other natural materials, emulate Alabama's rich culture with a fresh and modern look.
