The Tao, or great void, which in eastern philosophy is the source of life and that which binds all things, is the inspiration for this lifestyle club in the bustling city of Shanghai. This taut glass box reveals little about its interior. It is about the perception of experience and the drama of anticipation, expressed on the outside with the famed rabbit head logo on a repeated pattern along its facade.
Entering beneath the glass box, two tectonic elements are presented. To the left a dramatic glass stair bathed in light floats above a cool tranquil pool of water while to the right a mysterious and massive dark steel box commands attention. The stair leads upwards and reveals a spatial void, a kaleidoscope atrium turning and twisting towards a large skylight at the top of the building. This void carries the energy and imagery of the entire Club through light reflecting from thousands of vantage points. The monolithic steel box contains private elevators for club members. Its mystery is carried down to the smallest details - no doors or hinges - as nothing about its contents are to be revealed.
The Club will occupy a completely renovated seven-story building. The program is planned to include three restaurants, a two-story discotheque, a two-story cabaret lounge with sky boxes, a wine bar, a cigar lounge, a spa and a Playboy store.
