The team of 4240 Architecture and KSQ Architects have begun to innovate and improve upon the new housing standards recently developed for Ikenberry Commons. To be LEED Silver certified, the Ikenberry Commons Residence Hall West is the third phase of University of Illinois' ongoing housing redevelopment plan.
The 4240/KSQ plans for the new 99,000 square foot building, providing for more than 340 new beds, will adjust the originally designed massing and revise internal communal spaces as well as address students' preferences for double occupancy, semi-private bathrooms, and air conditioned living environments. This new residence hall will also complete the final phase of facilities designed to integrate students with severe physical disabilities as part of the University's renowned Beckwith program.
Garner Hall is scheduled for demolition at the completion of Residence Hall West.
